🧭 Commonly Asked Questions (Because apparently sailing off into the sunset raises a few eyebrows.)
Meet the crew: One captain, one chronic over-thinker, and one dog who knows she’s in charge.

Q: What exactly is Unanchored Life?

A: It’s our grand experiment in swapping suburbia for the sea. After selling our home in Wellington, Florida, we moved aboard Moonfleet — our Kadey Krogen 55 Expedition trawler — to explore the world slowly, deliberately, and occasionally in circles. Unanchored Life is part travelogue, part mid-life reinvention, and part comedy of nautical errors.

Q: Who are you two, anyway?

A: I’m Kirsten — a former TV director turned real-estate broker turned accidental mariner. My husband Ken (aka Captain Silver Fox) is a retired Navy Commander and Blackhawk helicopter test pilot who now applies that same precision to docking our 60-foot home in a crosswind. We travel with Gypsy, our 80-pound Plott Hound mix who wandered up to us and unwisely chose us as her new parents two years ago — and was quickly promoted to Chief Morale Officer.

Q: Tell us about your boat. What is it, and why did you choose this one?

A: Moonfleet is a Kadey Krogen 55 Expedition trawler — a serious boat for people serious about staying alive in their midlife crisis. We chose her for her range, comfort, and ability to make us feel like seasoned explorers even when we’re arguing over the autopilot. With twin engines, stabilizers, and enough storage to survive an apocalypse (or just a long crossing), she’s our floating home, office, and occasional therapy chamber.

Q: Why did you bring a dog with you?

A: Because Gypsy insisted — and we knew better than to argue. She’s a big, loyal Plott Hound mix with the heart of an adventurer and the snore of a freight train. She keeps us grounded, gets us talking to locals, and ensures every beach becomes a playground. Also, no one questions a woman walking a dog at sunrise — even in the Bahamas.

Q: Where are you cruising right now?

A: As I write this we are currenty in the Bahamas, meandering from the Elutheras to the Exumas — following calm seas, good anchorages, and decent Wi-Fi. If the chart plotter says Here Be Dragons, that’s usually where we’re headed next. If you want to see a map of where we are heading, please subscribe and go to the WHERE IS MOONFLEET NOW page.

Q: How do you work from a boat?

A: With Starlink, caffeine, and questionable confidence. I run my real-estate brokerage remotely while Ken consults in all things helicopter with other crash test dummies who are still flying. Gypsy supervises, occasionally adding her opinion with a well-timed bark.

Q: Where can we watch your adventures?

A: You can find us on YouTube at @UNANCHOREDLIFE — our floating unreality show meets travel comedy. Expect equal parts beauty and bedlam as we share boat life, Bahamas cruising, and the occasional Coast Guard cameo.

Q: What’s been your wildest adventure so far?

A: It’s a tie between being stopped by the Bahamian Coast Guard off Great Guana Cay and Gypsy meeting a lost Bahamian pig on a beach. Both involved confusion, barking, and a lingering sense that we might be the entertainment.

Q: Is living on a boat as dreamy as it looks?

A: It’s dreamy in the way marriage is dreamy — equal parts breathtaking and baffling. The sunsets are magical, the plumbing is not. Boat life is 50% awe, 30% repairs, and 20% wondering where that smell is coming from.

Q: How do you stay connected — literally and emotionally?

A: With Starlink for the data, and humor for everything else. We’ve learned that laughter — and the occasional sundowner — keeps both Wi-Fi signals and relationships strong.

Q: What’s next for the Unanchored crew?

A: Going South for now! Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, British Virgin Islands and beyond. If you are a Crew Member, please check out the page A GOOGLE MAP WOULD YOU BELIEVE! The dream is to keep going until Gypsy learns a second language or the autopilot starts giving directions in Italian.

Q: How can we follow or support your journey?

A: Become a Crew Member right here on our Unanchored Life site. Subscribers get access to our live GPS tracker showing where we actually are (yes, really) and an interactive map of where we’re planning to go next. It’s the best way to sail along with us for less than a price of the beer, which goes straight to our enourmous data crunching bill, thanks Elon! You can also follow our adventures on Instagram and YouTube, or just tell your favorite adventurous aunt that we’re the couple who traded cul-de-sacs for currents.
