New Video Drop and a Swallow Tattoo

New video: Killer whales, a stowaway bird, Bermuda Triangle waters, spectacular sunsets, and ongoing negotiations with Gypsy about using a floating dog bathroom. Looking back, I suspect the ocean was unusually kind to us—just to lure us farther from shore.

New video! This one covers our first long passage; the 1000ish miles between St Thomas and Bermuda. I think the ocean was kind to us on that passage just so we would carry on.

Enjoy…

I really need to take better photos of us for these thumbnails. YouTube claims is attracts viewers to click. I think YouTube has a wicked sense of humor.

We have now been underway for 11 days and 17 hours, according to the chart plotter in front of me. My, how we have come to worship this array of blinking, glowing screens. If the chart plotter suddenly announced that we were heading for Never Never Land and about to pick up the Lost Boys I think we would comply. This has caused an issue explained later in this story.

So far on this leg alone we have travelled 1,976 miles, with only 140 left to go. And that’s not counting the 1,000 miles from St Thomas to Bermuda, or the 1,500 miles we covered getting here through the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the USVI, BVI, St Martin, St Barts and Bermuda. Phew! What a ride!

A friend following our journey sent me a photograph of a swallow tattoo. This tattoo is apparently earned by sailors after travelling 5,000 nautical miles. Since I now qualify, I am considering having a discrete swallow tattoo placed directly between my eyes. Not because I am particularly sentimental about maritime traditions, but because it would save me having to pay for any more Botox. Who is going to notice a few wrinkles? Nestled neatly between the gull wings of my regrettably tattooed eyebrows, it would also provide an excellent excuse to talk even more about myself and our adventures at future dinner parties.

“Funny you should mention sailing,” I’d say, before anyone had actually mentioned sailing.
